Delegation from LZUFH (First School of Clinical Medicine) Attends the 11th ERAS World Congress

        From September 16th to 20th, the 11th ERAS World Congress was held in Turin, Italy. A 14-member delegation from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University (the First School of Clinical Medicine), led by Vice President Zhang Lei and comprising representatives from the Department of General Surgery, Orthopedics, Anesthesiology & Operation Room, Thoracic Surgery, and Rehabilitation Medicine, attended the congress. They engaged with leading global experts and scholars on ERAS advancements and showcased the hospital's relevant scientific research achievements. The First Hospital of Lanzhou University submitted a total of 102 abstracts to the congress. Among these, four were selected for oral presentations, one was awarded an "Excellent Poster" prize, and 72 were presented as poster exhibitions. The quantity and quality of these academic outputs placed the hospital among the international forefront, demonstrating its solid foundation and innovative capabilities in the field of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery.





        During the congress, several delegation members delivered academic presentations. Xie Yu, Head Nurse of the 6th Ward, Department of General Surgery, presented an analysis on the effects of implementing perioperative ERAS nursing for patients undergoing laparoscopic radical resection for colorectal cancer, systematically introducing the hospital's practical achievements in this area, which garnered widespread interest. Wu Yuchen, Deputy Head Nurse of the Department of Anesthesiology & Operation Room, shared findings on the efficacy and safety of double-lumen endotracheal intubation versus bronchial blockers for one-lung ventilation in thoracic surgery. She also presented on the application effects of acupoint application therapy with traditional Chinese medicine in preventing pharyngolaryngeal complications after bronchial intubation, drawing significant attention for its notable clinical benefits and unique TCM external treatment approach. Ma Xiaoli, Head Nurse of the Department of Thoracic Surgery, reported on the effects of multidimensional sleep intervention for enhanced recovery in patients undergoing lung cancer surgery, with its patient-centered and comprehensive nursing philosophy gaining recognition from international peers.


        At the poster sessions, Kang Ju, Chief Rehabilitation Therapist of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, presented on the impact of interferential current therapy combined with the traditional Chinese exercise "Baduanjin" on pain, function, and balance ability in patients after lumbar spine surgery, vividly illustrating the features of integrated Chinese and Western medicine rehabilitation and attracting numerous representatives for discussion. Yu Liulin, Head Nurse of the 10th Ward, Department of General Surgery, reported on the positive effects of early ankle pump exercises on rehabilitation after lower limb venous surgery; this work was awarded the "Best Poster" prize. Wang Mingfei, Associate Chief Physician of the 2nd Ward, Department of General Surgery, shared findings on the impact of ERAS protocols on the postoperative complication rate following laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy. Additionally, five postgraduate students from the First School of Clinical Medicine also conducted academic exchanges at the congress.


        Vice President Zhang Lei stated that their participation effectively enhanced the hospital's international reputation and laid a solid foundation for deepening collaboration with international ERAS experts. The First Hospital of Lanzhou University will continue to promote the deep integration of ERAS principles within multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment, accelerate the translation of scientific research findings into clinical practice, and provide patients with higher-quality, more patient-centered medical care.
