From October 13th to 14th, Professor Markus Bassler, President of the German-Chinese Academy for Psychosomatic Medicine and Chairman of the German Rehabilitation Science Medical Alliance, along with Senior Psychotherapist Consultant Annette Bassler, revisited the First Hospital of Lanzhou University for a two-day in-depth exchange and visit.

On the morning of the 13th, Mr. Hou Xiaoming, Vice President of the hospital, met with Professor Markus Bassler and Annette Bassler. Hou Xiaoming expressed that following Professor Bassler's initial visit in April this year, this return visit has brought cutting-edge concepts and valuable clinical experience in the field of psychosomatic medicine to the hospital, further broadening its academic horizons. The hospital looks forward to establishing a long-term and stable cooperative mechanism with the German-Chinese Academy for Psychosomatic Medicine focusing on the development of the psychosomatic medicine discipline, to systematically advance its construction and enhance clinical service levels.

This visit focused on the deepened application of psychosomatic medicine in clinical practice and medical education. In the Cardiovascular Medicine and Oncology departments, Professor Markus Bassler held discussions with the medical teams on core issues such as the assessment of psychosomatic symptoms in patients with comorbid psychosomatic conditions and the optimization of multidisciplinary intervention plans, providing key directions for enhancing the departments' comprehensive service capabilities. Addressing the large patient base in the General Surgery department and the significant impact of preoperative anxiety and postoperative emotional fluctuations on the recovery process, Professor Bassler engaged in in-depth discussions with the nursing team on integrating full-cycle psychological care into the surgical rehabilitation process. This aims to further shorten patient recovery times and improve the quality of nursing services.
Furthermore, Professor Markus Bassler participated in the Balint group activity regularly conducted by the Psychiatry and Psychology Department, providing professional guidance on case analysis and doctor-patient relationship adjustment. This assisted medical staff in enhancing their psychological support capabilities and communication skills, while also alleviating their own occupational stress. During the "Overseas Master Lecture Series" – the "Long Medical Journey, Companion by LZUFH" lecture series for comprehensive competency improvement of medical students, Professor Markus Bassler delivered a specialized speech on "Chronic Pain and Doctor-Patient Communication." Through numerous practical examples, he analyzed the logic behind psychosomatic assessment and communication strategies for patients with chronic pain, inspiring students to think deeply about psychosomatic medicine. The session not only conveyed professional knowledge but also ignited the students' enthusiasm for exploring the field of psychosomatic medicine.

During the Feedback meeting on the 14th, both sides agreed that multiple online and offline exchanges have laid a solid foundation for cooperation in clinical collaboration, discipline building, and talent cultivation. Both parties committed to further strengthening cooperation in the field of psychosomatic medicine, promoting the integrated development of the hospital across multiple dimensions including clinical diagnosis and treatment, nursing services, and medical education.
