From September 16th to 20th, the 11th World ERAS® Congress was held in Turin, Italy. A delegation of 14 representatives from the First Hospital of Lanzhou University (The First School of Clinical Medicine), led by Vice President Zhang Lei, attended the congress. The delegation, comprising experts from General Surgery, Orthopedics, Anesthesiology and Operating Room, Thoracic Surgery, and Rehabilitation Medicine, engaged with leading global scholars to discuss cutting-edge advancements in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) and presented the hospital's relevant scientific research achievements. The First Hospital of Lanzhou University submitted a total of 102 abstracts to the congress. Among these, four were selected for oral presentations, one was awarded an Excellent Poster prize, and 72 were accepted for poster presentations. The quantity and quality of these academic outputs placed the hospital at the forefront internationally, demonstrating its solid foundation and innovative capacity in the field of ERAS.
During the congress, several delegation members delivered academic reports. Xie Yu, Head Nurse of the 6th Ward, General Surgery Department, presented an analysis on the effects of implementing perioperative ERAS nursing for patients undergoing laparoscopic radical resection of colorectal cancer, systematically introducing the hospital’s practical achievements in this area, which garnered widespread interest. Wu Yuchen, Deputy Head Nurse of the Anesthesiology and Operating Room Department, shared findings on the efficacy and safety of double-lumen endotracheal tubes versus bronchial blockers for one-lung ventilation in thoracic surgery, and also presented on the application effects of traditional Chinese medicine acupoint application in preventing pharyngolaryngeal complications after bronchial intubation, drawing strong reactions due to the significant clinical benefits and unique approach integrating TCM external treatments. Ma Xiaoli, Head Nurse of the Thoracic Surgery Department, reported on the effects of multi-dimensional sleep intervention on enhancing recovery in patients undergoing lung cancer surgery, with the patient-centered, comprehensive nursing philosophy winning recognition from international peers.
