LZUFH Presents at the 10th Annual Meeting of ERAS Society

From September 18 to 20, 10th World Congress of the ERAS Society was held in Malaga, Spain. Prof. Meng Wenbo, Deputy Director of Medical Department of Lanzhou University(LZU) and Vice President of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University(LZUFH), led a delegation to attend the meeting.

This conference gathered more than 430 experts and scholars from 44 countries and regions around the world to discuss and share the latest research results and clinical practice of ERAS, and a total of 36 papers from LZUFH and its First School of Clinical Medicine were accepted by the conference, which covered a wide range of disciplines, such as surgery, anaesthesia, nursing, rehabilitation, nutrition and management, etc. Among them, 8 papers were invited to present Best Oral, Oral Presentations, Digital Poster Presentations, and Poster Presentations.


Oral presentations: Probiotic ameliorates acute gastrointestinal injury(AGI) with gut hypoperfusion situation in heart value replacement patients--Yang Xiaofang, Deputy Chief Physician, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery; Effect of different temperature management regimens on cesarean section patients: a randomized controlled study--Li Ning, Head Nurse, Anaesthesia Recovery(Room 1), Department of Anesthesiology and OR.

Poster presentations: Diagnostic accuracy of C-reactive protein for the early diagnosis of infectious complications after gastrectomy for gastric cancer: A meta-analysis and systematic review--Yu Yongjiang, Director of General Surgery(Ward 5); Clinical study on the treatment of pain in patients with acute pancreatitis by acupuncture combined with low-frequency pulsed electrical stimulation based on the ERAS model--Chen Wanqiang, Deputy Director of Rehabilitation Medicine Department; Application of standardized pain management in painless wards in the perioperative period of cervical cancer patients--Hu Sasha, Head Nurse of Gynaecology(Ward 1).

Besides, there are poster displays from master’s degree candidate of Lanzhou University School of Medicine, Class of 2022, including Risk Factors and Predictive Model for Day-case ERCP Surgery: A Multi-center Prospective Post-hoc Study and Validation by Jin Boru, Management of permissive hypercapnia after cardiac arrest: a strategy to improve quality of recovery and optimizing resuscitation outcomes by Gao Zhaohui, and The relationship between dynamic cerebral autoregulation and postoperative cognitive dysfunction during cardiac and noncardiac surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis by Su Xoaodong.



After the meeting, the delegation also had academic exchanges with the father of ERAS --Prof. Henrik Kehlet and Prof. Tom Wainwright.

In addition, the Department of Anesthesiology and OR has joined hands with Prof. Eske Aasvangs team at the Royal Hospital of the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, the birthplace of ERAS, to launch a prospective Mirror study on the evaluation of the clinical effects of perioperative iron intervention strategies on anaemia in gastrointestinal tumour patients. The study will explore the effectiveness of iron therapy in reducing the need for allogeneic blood transfusion, optimising postoperative recovery and reducing postoperative complications in patients with gastrointestinal tumours, so as to provide scientific evidence and high-level evidence-based medical guidance for the management of anaemia in patients with gastrointestinal tumours during the perioperative period.

The excellent performance of LZUFHs delegation not only gained high praise from the participating experts, but also established a good academic image in the international medical field. This experience not only deepened the communication and cooperation between it and the international medical field, but also provided valuable experience and inspiration for future research work and clinical practice.

LZUFH will continue to promote the popularity and practice of ERAS and ERAD concepts through continuous exploration, research and innovation, to provide patients with better medical services, to continuously improve the patients experience of medical treatment, to accelerate perioperative rehabilitation, and to improve patients quality of life.
