From October 21 to 24, Torben Mogensen, winner of the Chinese Government Friendship Award , and the Dunhuang Award of the Gansu Provincial Peoples Government for outstanding foreign experts, and visiting professor of Lanzhou University (LZU), came to the first hospital of Lanzhou University (LZUFH) for academic exchanges with Ms. Hanne Hasling, a rehabilitation management expert from Copenhagen, Denmark.

On the morning of October 21st, Prof. Li Xun, Vice President of LZU and President of LZUFH, met with Prof. Torben Morgensen and his team, accompanied by Prof. Zhang Lei, Prof. Hou Xiaoming, Vice Presidents of LZUFH, and persons in charge of the relevant administrative departments and clinical departments.

Prof. Li Xun welcomed the visit of Prof. Torben Morgensen and his delegation and said that under his guidance, LZUFH has been working closely with the international team of experts in Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) to continuously optimize the implementation of ERAS in many disciplines such as Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, etc., and to carry out the data control and clinical research of ERAS, combining the characteristics of TCM and rehabilitation medicine. ERAS data control and clinical research, combined with the characteristics of Chinese medicine and rehabilitation medicine, first innovatively proposed and practiced Enhanced Recovery after diseases (ERAD) at home and abroad, which has achieved good results and benefited a large number of patients.

Prof. Torben Morgensen reviewed the pragmatic cooperation between the two sides since his first visit to LZUFH in 2011, and also deeply felt the remarkable progress made by the hospital in the areas of ERAS, hospital refinement management and discipline construction. He pointed out that ERAS should follow the principle of scientific development, establish a data-based quality control system, and improve the quality of ERAS and ERAD practice and research in LZUFH. At the same time, the hospital should constantly summarize the practical experience, play a radiation-driven role in Gansu Province and even in the whole country, promote the wide dissemination of the concepts of ERAS and ERAD, and contribute to the power of LZUFH for the international exchange of ERAS and ERAD, and make contributions to the cause of human health and wellness.

After the meeting, at the invitation of Medical Affairs Office, Science and Technology Office, Operation Management Office, Nursing Department, Anesthesiology and OR Department, Department of General Surgery, Department of Thoracic Surgery, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Department of Orthopedics, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Clinical Nutrition, Department of Critical Care Medicine, Department of Emergency and Intensive Care Medicine, Pediatrics and Ambulatory Surgery Center, Prof. Torben Mogensen and Ms. Hanne Hasling visited the departments and wards successively to observe the specific implementation of ERAS and ERAD. They carried out four-day in-depth exchanges on the establishment and continuous optimization of ERAS clinical pathways for related diseases, expert consensus and international guidelines for high adherence to practice, ERAS data collection and analysis and feedback, and high-quality education and training.

Since the first cooperation between LZUFH and Prof. Torben Mogensen in 2011, he has visited the hospital for 14 times, witnessed its development of ERAS, and established long-term and stable cooperation in the dissemination and promotion of the concept of ERAS, the practical application of ERAS diagnostic and treatment modes, and the cultivation of internationalized talents, which has made great contributions to the healthcare cause of LZUFH and even the northwest region.
