A delegation from the Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada

In order to further promote medical exchanges between China and Canada and carry forward the humanitarian spirit of Bethune, from May 23rd to 25th, with the support of Health Commission of Gansu Province and Department of Science and Technology of Gansu Province, LZUFH invited a delegation from the Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada (BMDAC) for exchanges.


The visiting experts included Professor Renzo Cecere, Director of Division of Cardiac Surgery of McGill University; Dr. David Dai, Secretary General of BMDAC; and Dr. Nicholas Chai, Senior technologist of Cathlab in Cardiology of St. Michaels Hospital.

On the morning of 23rd, Wang Yancheng, Associate Counselor of Health Commission of Gansu Province, Zhang Ying, Senior staff of Division of Foreign Affairs of Health Commission of Gansu Province, Xu Lei, Fourth level consultant of Science and Technology Talents and Science Popularization Division of Science and Technology Department of Gansu Province, Meng Wenbo, Zhang Lei, the Vice Presidents of LZUFH, and the representatives of Foreign Affairs Office, Medical Department, Cardiovascular Surgery Department, Department of Cardiology, and Health Examination Center participated in the discussion.


Wang Yancheng said that since the Health Commission of Gansu Province established a cooperative relationship with the BMDAC in 2019, the two sides have carried out a series of pragmatic and friendly international cooperation in the field of healthcare. This visit to Gansu is not only a continuation of the friendly relationship between the two sides, but will also the promotion of the cooperation and exchange.


Meng Wenbo expressed that LZUFH attaches great importance to foreign cooperation and exchanges, and looks forward to this visit as an opportunity, relying on respective resources, to set up a long-term exchange and cooperation relationship, to deepen the cooperation in the fields of academic exchanges, personnel training, medical research, etc., and to promote the high-quality development of medical careers of the two sides.




Prof. Renzo Cecere and Mr. David Dai both emphasized that it is the mission and goal of the the BMDAC to work for the well-being of the people, and that the Association takes the cooperation with LZUFH seriously, and hopes that this exchange will be an opportunity to promote practical cooperation between the two sides and make contributions to the common response to the global challenges.

On the 24th, in order to implement the talent exchange and cultivation between LZUFH and BMDAC as soon as possible, three experts from BMDAC acted as interviewers for the six candidates to be selected for subsequent training and study visits to Canada. And in the afternoon of the same day, a summary feedback meeting was held to have in-depth discussions and exchanges on promoting medical services, talent construction, scientific research cooperation and technology development between the two sides.

During the visit, at the invitation of Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiology, Health Examination Center, Anesthesiology and OR Department, and Key Laboratory of Biotherapy and Regenerative Medicine, Gansu Province, the delegation carried out exchanges with the departments on the management of heart failure, patient selection, CCU development and other academic topics, and visited Cardiovascular Surgery and Ward, Cardiology CCU and Catheterization Room, Hybrid OR, Minimally Invasive Surgery Simulation Training Center, Health Examination Center, Key Laboratory of Biotherapy and Regenerative Medicine, Gansu Province, and the LZUFH Museum.

This academic communication is also a series of activities of Overseas Talent to China--Academic Exchange with Canadian Medical Experts jointly organized by International Talent Exchange Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology and BMDAC, ushering in the friendly cooperation between two sides. LZUFH will continue to deepen the foreign cooperation and exchange and promote the high-quality development of medical technology, scientific research and talent cultivation.
