On March 11, LZUFH, the first institution in western China, successfully passed the final accreditation of “Higher Surgical Training Programmes” by RCSEd and CSHK. Since then, the surgical training system of LZUFH has the qualification and ability to recruit the best surgeons from all over China and the world for internationalized surgical training.

Prof. Rowan Parks, Chairman of RCSEd, Prof. Ian Hawthorn, Executive Director of RCSEd, Prof. Zhang Dantu, Vice Chairman of CSHK, and Prof. Zhu Xiuqun, Chief Examiner of CSHK, and their entourage came to LZUFH to carry out the review. Ms. Liao Chenyu, Executive Director of British Chinese Society of Health Informatics, Prof. Li Xun, Vice President of Lanzhou University and President of LZUFH, Prof. Meng Wenbo, Vice President of LZUFH, Prof. Zhang Lei, Vice President of LZUFH and all the members of Training Committee of Higher Surgical Training Programmes of LZUFH attended the meeting.

On behalf of the LZUFH, Prof. Li Xun welcomed the experts of the jury and introduced the historical development, medical characteristics, discipline construction, talent training, international cooperation and future vision of the hospital. He said that LZUFH is building the first “Higher Surgical Training Programmes” of RCSEd and CSHK in western China in the Department of General Surgery, in order to further improve the training level of general surgeons, take the lead in realizing the standardized training of general surgeons, establish a perfect and standardized training system for advanced surgeons and actively introduce the good practical experience, so as to promote training of general surgeons in western China more standardized. We also hope to have more extensive and in-depth exchanges and cooperation with RCSEd and CSHK in the fields of clinical care and medical research.

President Rowan Parks highly praised the efforts made by LZUFH in the past three years to promote the “Higher Surgical Training Programmes”, fully affirmed the organizational structure, training process and training effect of the base, and hoped to start the internationalized training process covering junior to senior surgeons, establish a complete training system and form a regular operation mode, so as to provide a useful exploration for the continuous improvement of the “Higher Surgical Training Programmes”.

The successful accreditation of this programme marks an important step in the internationalization of medical education and training in LZUFH.
