Prof. Tom Wainwright from Bournemouth University, UK, Visits LZUFH

Recently, Tom Wainwright, Professor of Orthopaedics and Deputy Director of the Institute of Orthopaedic Research of Bournemouth University, was invited to visit the First Hospital of Lanzhou University (LZUFH).
On the morning of July 16, Lei Junqiang, Vice President of the LZUFH, had a discussion with Prof. Tom Wainwright, in which Lei generally introduced the LZUFH and specifically Orthopedics, Rehabilitation, etc., and said that the two sides had already carried out the cooperation in ERAS. He was looking forward to deepening the cooperation through this visit, and to establishing a platform for mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation.
Prof. Tom Wainwright expressed that it is because of the solid communication between the two sides in the early stage that drove him to visit the hospital again after one year, and he was expecting to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism by this face-to-face exchange, so as to deepen the all-round cooperative relationship between the two sides.
On that day, Prof. Tom Wainwright went to the Rehabilitation Department to carry out special academic lectures, sharing the latest theories and technologies of rehabilitation medicine in UK, discussing and exchanging with the medical and nursing staff of the department on the application of ERAS in rehabilitation medicine and exchanging views on the next step of the two sides to carry out cooperation in scientific research and talent training.
From July 11 to 12, Prof. Tom Wainwright carried out shift handover, ward inspection, and surgery observation in four wards of Orthopaedic Surgery respectively, and discussed with the departmental staff on the full process of joint replacement surgery and arthroscopic surgery, anesthesia and rehabilitation, and nursing care under the ERAS Clinical Pathway, and also gave a detailed instruction on ERAS Clinical Pathway for Orthopaedic Surgery. Meanwhile, as the Allied Health Professional Representative of the ERAS Society, Prof. Tom Wainwright conducted on-site exchanges with four teams in General Surgery Ward 2, Ward 3, Ward 4 and Anesthesiology & OR Department, etc., which were qualified for ERAS Training and Implementation Program issued by the ERAS Society, and fully affirmed the effectiveness of the four wards in the implementation of the ERAS.
During the visit, the Foreign Affairs Office, together with the Postgraduate Office, Academic Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, Science and Technology Office and other offices, organized the Global Vision Lectures (Lecture 4), in which Prof. Tom Wainwright, with the topic of “From Practice to Professorship: An example of how to turn a clinical observation into a programme of research”, combined with his own practice, brilliantly talked about with listeners how to carry out scientific research and how to utilize scientific research to better benefit patients, etc. Edited by the Office of Foreign Affairs
