Vice President Meng Wenbo and Dr. Ding Fanghui attended the RCSEd/CSHK Joint Scientific Conference

    On November 4, Meng Wenbo, Vice President of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University (LZUFH), also Research Director of the Higher Surgical Training and Accreditation Project of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong (CSHK), and trainee Dr. Ding Fanghui were invited to attend the RCSEd/CSHK Conjoint Scientific Congress 2023 in Hong Kong region, China. Themed on “Taking Minimally Invasive Surgery to the Next Level”, the congress is jointly held by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh(RCSEd) and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong(CSHK).


    During the congress, Prof. Meng Wenbo reported the progress of the project and further work plan to Prof. Rowan PARKS, President of the RCSEd, the former President Prof. Michael Griffin and Prof. Kent-man CHU, President of the CSHK. As Prof. Meng Wenbo noted, the Accreditation Project will promote LZUFH to establish a surgical specialist training mode, evaluation system and examination system of the highest level and in line with international standards. Prof. Rowan PARKS and Prof. Michael Griffin expressed their willing to advance further cooperation with LZUFH, cultivating surgical talents in the principle of standardization, normalization and globalization.


    Dr. Ding Fanghui, Associate Chief Surgeon of General Surgeryat LZUFH, also the trainee of the project made a keynote speech named “Indocyanine Green Tracer-Guided Lymph Node Dissection During Laparoscopic Radical Gastrectomy in Patients With Gastric Cancer”. The speech fully demonstrated our hospital’s advantages of combining the general surgery with endoscopy, highly recognized and praised by the gastrointestinal surgery colleagues attending the meeting.


    Later on, Prof. Meng Wenbo visited Hong Kong Baptist University(HKBU), the Department of Surgery of the University of Hong Kong(HKU) and Queen Mary Hospital. Moreover, they communicated with Prof. Bian Zhaoxiang, Associate Vice President of HKBU, Director of Innovation and Research Center of Chinese Medicine, Director of Chinese Medicine Clinical Research Center in Hong Kong, and Prof. Luo Yingjie, Director of the Department of Surgery and the Department of Esophageal and Gastrointestinal Surgery of the HKU, laying the foundation for further bilateral cooperation on surgical talent cultivation and basic scientific research work.

Founded in 1990, the CSHK keeps in line with the UK in its training and management model for surgeons. As the statutory authority for the training and examination of surgical specialists in Hong Kong, the CSHK, cooperating with the RCSEd, has developed and practiced a complete training and assessment system, and assisted the RCSEd to evaluate the training base of China as the first reviewer and a recommendator.
