The 9th ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) World Congress was held between 31 May - 2 June, 2023 in Lisbon Portugal.

    ERAS World Congress is the world’s largest and most prestigious international academic conference for ERAS specialties. In addition to the regular ERAS training course held every year, the conference also set up professional panel meetings to discuss the latest progress of ERAS scientific research including general surgery, anesthesia, cardiology, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, nursing, orthopedics, urology, etc. Eleven studies of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University (LZUFH) were selected in this conference, including 9 poster presentations by President Li Xun et al., and 2 oral presentation by Vice President Meng Wenbo and Head nurse Yang Liping.

    Professor Li Xun, president of the First Hospital of Lanzhou University was invited to lead a delegation to attend this conference, which is the only academic delegation from Chinese mainland.

    At the conference, President Li Xun made a poster display entitled From Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) to Enhanced Recovery After Diseases (ERAD)-Our Development and Innovation Road, and introduced the ERAS and ERAD development and innovation road of LZUFH. 

    Professor Meng Wenbo, vice president of LZUFH, made a speech entitled Taking a high-carbohydrate liquid diet two hours before ERCP in non-emergency patients was as safe as overnight fasting: A single-blind, multi-centre, randomized controlled trial, demonstrating the safety of high-carbohydrate consumption versus overnight fasting 2 hours before ERCP in non-emergency patients. 

    Yang Liping, Head nurse from General Surgery Department gave a presentation entitled Multi-media health education reduces the workload of nurses without affecting patient satisfaction: a prospective single-center randomized controlled trial. The other delegation members introduced ERAS related research from fields such as nursing and rehabilitation.
