COVID-19 wreaked havoc on the world, changing the work and life of many people, but unable to stop the pace of medical exchanges and cooperation. In order to share medical experience model, explore medical cooperation and exchange, promote the high-quality development of hospitals, and promote the exchanges and cooperation between countries along the Belt and Road and China in the field of medical and health, the First Hospital of Lanzhou University (LZUFH) and Beijing Medical Award Foundation jointly hosted The Belt and Road International Academic Conference on Hospital Cooperation and Development in Lanzhou, China on August 28, 2021.

General secretary Xi Jinping put forward the idea of building “healthy silk force” to build a community of human health, and to add new impetus to building One Belt and One Road with high quality. Following General secretary’s request and guided by hospital development and discipline construction, the conference invited 13 experts from Germany, Japan, Italy, Ukraine, Singapore, Sri Lanka and other countries along the Belt and Road and more than 60 well-known scholars at home and abroad to give online and offline academic lectures.

Fan Jia, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Song Erwei, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Guangdong Zhongshan Hospital, Professor Michael Nerlich, President of German-Chinese Medical Association, Jin Zhongjie, director of Medical Security Bureau of Gansu Province and other well-known hospital managers and academic celebrities successively delivered speeches and special reports at the conference.

The participating experts conducted special exchanges and discussions from seven topics: Hospital management and development, Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of HBP, Progress of tumor diagnosis and treatment, Frontier of cardiovascular emergency and critical diseases, Progress of clinical testing technology and laboratory quality and safety management, Optimization of nursing mode, Medical security and payment reform.

As a bright pearl on the Yellow River, Lanzhou is an important route of the ancient Silk Road. The successful convening of this conference will further promote medical exchanges and cooperation between countries along One Belt and One Road and China, and have more flowers of friendship and fruits of success in the medical field!
