LZUFH and RCSEd hold pre-meeting on overseas accreditation project

    On June 29, Tuesday, the First Hospital of Lanzhou University (LZUFH) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) held a pre-meeting on Overseas Accreditation Project, which is ultimately aiming for developing and strengthening the higher surgical training system through introducing the RCSEd accredited standards to the general surgical department of LZUFH initially and expanding the good practice to wider departments or even western China.


    President Xun Li delivered a opening speech to welcome specialists from RCSEd, including Timothy Graham, Chair of Professional Standard, Duncan McArthur, Director of Professional Activities, Catherine Thwaites, International Activities Manager and Peng Wong, Regional Surgical Advisor and express thanks to Ms. Natalie Liao and Mr. Lanmin Jia for their support and help to the overseas accreditation project of the LZUFH. He hoped through the RCSEd accreditation program, the diagnosis and treatment technique, standardization of doctors’ training as well as doctors’ continuing education at LZUFH can be improved in the future.


    At the meeting, Liu Yatao, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Communication, Xin Wang, Deputy Director of Surgical Teaching-research Office and Fanghong Wang, Secretary of Specialist Surgeons Training Base made reports centered on the project objectives, specialist surgeons’ current training system and trainees’ selection criteria at LZUFH respectively.


    Timothy Graham introduced the RCSEd overseas accreditation project and agreed with the planning of the first stage of the accreditation project by the LZUF. He said that the hospital’s goals are highly consistent with the RCSEd’s purpose. He believe that they can help the LZUFH to achieve greater dreams. Duncan elaborated on the current work they are doing and future work plans on this project.


    Via online pre-meeting, both parties acquired deep understanding to each other and achieved agreement on the key issues of the RCSEd Acreditation Project, which laid a good foundation to push forward the implementation of this Project in joint efforts.
