As a PhD student of the First School of Clinical Medicine, Lanzhou University, I applied for the doctoral students joint training program at McGill University from China Scholarship Council (CSC). And I am truly grateful to the First Hospital of Lanzhou University and my tutor, Xulei Tang.
McGill University is a public research university in Canada. In all major rankings, McGill consistently ranks in the top 50 universities in the world and the top 3 in Canada. I worked at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), which is affiliated with McGill University and is one of the largest medical institutions in Canada.
With Constantine Polychronakos, M.D. Professor, I work in Endocrine Genetics Laboratory. Luc Marchand is a manager of our laboratory. He taught me many techniques, such as cell culture and sorting, DAN/RAN extraction, library purification and data processing.
During the COVID-19 period, a lot of work such as the MUHC Monday noon seminar and our laboratory meeting was transferred to the Internet. As the epidemic situation got controlled to a large extent, laboratories were gradually opening up, and those who needed to work in laboratories were required to submit applications online in advance. Each laboratory has a maximum of two people working at the same time and must wear masks every day.
Although there are many difficulties in the special period, I will continue studying for more than one year, but thanks to the care of the motherland and the First Hospital of Lanzhou University, I believe everything will go through safely.
