In recent years, the cancer research is gaining a growing concern and has made much progress. As a physician, I have been working in the Department of Hematology for decades and being not good at basic medical research, which made me recognize that I should improve my academic capability through performing further study in research. All the time, I am interested in the multidrug-resistance of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), especially the mechanisms of the field of epigenetics. That is why I choose the Dr.Shujun Liu as my supervisor in visiting period.

Dr. Liu is an associate professor and leader of cancer epigenetics research section at The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota. His research programs focus on the molecular mechanisms of leukemia association, crosstalk between tyrosine kinase signaling and DNA hypermethylation in cancer pathogenesis, role of aberrant epigenetics and lysine methylation of non-histone proteins in leukemogenesis.

In 2018, a major breakthrough in understanding the cause of drug resistance in leukemia was published in”Cell Research” based on the discoveries by Dr. Liu, and his team studied the molecular causes for the development and maintenance of drug resistant phenotypes in leukemia, and looked for new therapeutic options based on that process to cure this blood cancer. In 2019, another article was published in the high impact journal“Nature Communications”, which showed a significant new understanding about what causes the spread of leukemia at the molecular level.

Untill now, he has authored more than 100 publications and made lots of accomplishments in the field.
