As one of six visiting pharmacists, I attended a clinical pharmacy training program established by The Western New England University/College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences(WNEU-COPHS) and Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) for Chinese pharmacists. The program adopted the “1+4+1” model: 1-month academic pharmacy education learning at WNEU-COPHS, 4-month advanced clinical pharmacy training at YNHH and 1-month capstone project.

I received academic pharmacy education at WNEU, founded in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1919, where numerous excellent pharmacists obtained their degree from COPHS. Shusen Sun is my preceptor, a clinical associate professor and director of international pharmacy programs of WNEU-COPHS. During the first month, I got to know the education mode of Pharm D and paid more attention on the theoretical curriculum and pharmacy practice.

I had an opportunity in teaching observation, covering pharmacy ethics, pharmaceutics and integrated pharmaceutical care. And I realized that pharmacy practice here included introductory pharmacy practice education and advanced pharmacy practice education, which was worthy of reference. Besides, there are also some characteristics that we can learn from and apply in our teaching, for example, the teaching method is the combination of theoretical knowledge and case analysis, and by this way students have a strong initiative in learning.
